Preparing for Birth: A Grace-Filled Guide for Expectant Moms
When you’re preparing to meet your baby, there’s so much to plan - but even more to surrender. Birth isn’t something we can script perfectly, but we can prepare our hearts, our bodies, and our support system with intention.
Anchor Yourself in Peace
As a believer, one of the most powerful tools you have for birth is peace, the kind that passes understanding. Whether you call it prayer, breathwork, or Christian hypnobirthing, the goal is the same: to quiet fear and stay connected to the One who designed your body for this.
Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us to bring every request to God - yes, even contractions.
If you’re new to Christian hypnobirthing, try listening to Scripture-based affirmations or guided tracks that combine faith and relaxation. They’re a beautiful way to prepare your mind for a calm, confident birth experience.
Write Down Your “Wants” and Hold Them Loosely
It’s healthy to make a list of your preferences: lighting, music, immediate skin-to-skin, delayed cord clamping, minimal interruptions, etc. These “wants” help you communicate clearly with your birth team. But remember: flexibility is a gift. Birth rarely goes exactly as planned, and holding your list with open hands allows space for grace, both for yourself and your care team.
Build a Team You Trust
You don’t have to do this alone. Surround yourself with people who support your values and your peace. Here are a few trusted local professionals and resources I personally recommend:
Doulas
Ally Davis — allydavisphotography.com (Birth Photographer + Doula)
Vanessa Tobias — vanessatobiasphoto.com (Doula + Birth Photographer)

Pelvic Floor Specialists
Dr. Rachel Moore and Dr. Kassi Rieger with Disrupt Physio — experts in prenatal and postpartum pelvic floor care, alignment, and breathwork.
IBCLC (Lactation Consultant)

Each offers a calm, supportive environment focused on natural, family-centered care — perfect for mamas who want a peaceful, midwife-led experience.

Gather the Essentials
Here’s a gentle list of things to prepare ahead of time:
Birth bag packed with comfy robe, socks, snacks, charger
Baby’s outfits + swaddle
Birth plan/preferences sheet
ID + insurance card
Toiletries + hair ties
Scripture cards or affirmation cards
Nursing pads + postpartum care items
Blanket or pillow from home for comfort
(And remember, you truly need less than you think.)
Prepare Your Heart
Spend time praying over your birth, your body, your baby, your caregivers. Speak life over your delivery and remind yourself that you were made for this. Your preparation is good, but His presence is what carries you through.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”
— Proverbs 31:25
