How My Own Motherhood Shapes the Way I Photograph Yours

Motherhood changes everything…not just the way we live, but the way we see.
And the longer I photograph families, the more I realize this truth:

My own motherhood is the lens through which I photograph yours.

Not in a technical sense, but in the deeply human way I notice things now….things I never would have understood before having babies of my own. And those moments, the ones that feel ordinary or chaotic or tender, are exactly what I want to preserve for you.

Because those are the moments you’ll miss most.

Motherhood Taught Me What Really Matters in a Photograph

When I became a mom, I stopped looking for perfection.
I started noticing the things I once rushed past:

  • The way a newborn curls into you like they already know you

  • How a toddler always finds their way back into your arms

  • The softness in a mother’s voice when she whispers “it’s okay”

  • The small hands that reach for your fingers without thinking

As a maternity and newborn photographer, I don’t just see poses,
I see your story unfolding right in front of me.

Motherhood taught me that the photos that matter most aren’t the ones where everything looks polished… but the ones where everything feels true.

I Photograph Your Motherhood the Way I Want to Remember Mine

When I’m photographing you, I’m thinking about years from now —
when your babies are taller than you
and you’re scrolling through photos that feel like another lifetime.

I imagine you holding an image where:

  • Your baby rests on your chest, breathing steady

  • Your toddler is running circles around you

  • You’re smoothing tiny hairs or brushing crumbs away

  • You’re laughing because the moment didn’t go according to plan

And you’ll think: This is exactly what that season felt like.

That’s the kind of natural motherhood photography I want to give you —
not staged perfection, but emotional honesty.

Why This Matters for Your Session

Because I’m a mother too, I approach every session differently:

I don’t rush.

Babies need breaks. Toddlers need space. Moms need to breathe.

We honor that.

I don’t force poses.

Your natural interactions are always more beautiful than anything scripted.

I look for what you don’t see.

The quiet resilience.

The softness in your eyes.

The way your child looks at you like you’re their whole world.

I know how fast it goes.

So I photograph what I wish someone had photographed for me.

This is what sets Studio Brae apart — the heart behind the images.
